The 123rd running of the Irish Derby was held on Saturday 26th June 1988 over 1 mile 4 furlongs of The Curragh. Subscriptions were £4250 with a first prize of £329,250. The winner was owned and bred by HH Aga Khan IV, trained by Luca Cumani at Newmarket, and ridden by Ray Cochrane. The winner won by a short head in 2 minutes 32.5 seconds, with 2 1/2 lengths between second and third.
